No matter how many times you watch certain episodes of "I Love Lucy," many scenes are still just as funny today as when they were first filmed. They are indeed timeless.
I often wonder just how many people applied to work at a chocolate factory just so they could be like Lucy and Ethel and eat all the bon-bons coming down the belt. I still laugh whenever I think of that classic scene. Like you, I don't care if some do say that was unsophisticated; it's still funny after all these years. What could be better than that?
I went to the opera in New York and sat in the balcony. It was great but easily superseded by that bright red hair down in the orchestra section bobbing out of the musical palace. I was sure I had seen a star - and I had. I Love Lucy.
I loved Fran Drescher in The Nanny. Great writing, great actors who were in the right part, lots of laughs. Even though I am an absolute Southern Californian and knew this back then (not ever traveled further east than San Bernardino) that New York was a place I would not fit in, to say the least. I could relate to that sitcom and enjoyed Fran’s character’s antics immensely.
I have long suspected that the popularity of "I Love Lucy" made my parents similar interethnic marriage possible and acceptable to my mom's Midwest family.
What a great pairing - Lucy’s Waaaaaa and Fran drescher’s voice saying anything. The identical wavelength. I watched everything Lucy, even the movies. She was iconic. I never watched Fran (sorry) b/c she sounded like a whiner. Thin line. However, I do hold Ms Drescher in the highest of regards b/c she bravely led SAG-AFTRA (I think) into strikes and protests that brought the union favorable results and us, our shows again. Waaaaaa goes a long way sometimes. I love Lucy (and fran) but I really like standing up to bullies. Something Lucille and Fran very much have in common. You go girl.
