It also provide irrigation water for desert agriculture, then drinking water for large populations, who then created huge needs for even more electricity to air-condition poorly insulated homes: the "Cadillac Desert".

My grandfather worked on the construction of the dam. He moved his family to Boulder City once housing was completed there to house workers families. They stayed on after the dam construction was completed. During World War Two, my father was stationed at the Army Air Force Base in Las Vegas and met my mother. They were married, and I was born in Boulder City. The Dam plays an important part in my family’s history, but we still refer to it as “Boulder Dam.”
