Despite all the arguments about the 14th Amendment pertaining only to former slaves, the legislators said “all persons.” They did not say all persons formerly held in bondage. It is a fundamental rule of interpretation that legislators know how to say what they mean and mean what they say—end of discussion.

Why this was not rendered a unanimous 9-0 decision by the Supreme Court in 2026 to be upheld leaves so many heartbroken.. My how far has this nation fallen, but no one will ever succumb to giving up hope that this democratic-republic is well worth fighting for and keeping..
