I loved hearing this and seeing the visuals about the Erie Canal! Thanks, Pete. You represent all that is good in America. (I started 250 to 250 with this one.)
I grew up in central New York. The Erie Canal was an integral part of the economy of all the small towns and villages along the canal. I attended K-12 school in Jordan-Elbridge and the canal was a part of the curriculum-including walks in the canal bed outside Ramsdell Elementary (at the time) and field trips to the canal and locks in Weedsport and Port Byron. Thanks for sharing that song that Mrs. Austin taught us in music class at Elbridge Elementary!
