Am I misreading Eisenhower’s handwriting, or did he date this message July, forgetting it was only the month of June? What a marvelous detail signifying the pressures and exhaustion of the war.
I went to see the film PRESSURE. Naturally, I cried. It was just after the 82nd anniversary of D-Day and the heroic campaign against fascism. Just as in HAMILTON, Lin-Manuel Miranda's lyrics have George Washington saying, "I led my men straight into a massacre, I witnessed their deaths firsthand." We may have to take up arms for just causes, but we should never treat lives as expendable. A wise leader demonstrates true strength by making friends and allies out of former enemies. To do this, we have to live in such a way that our principles make others want to emulate us. For those of the Christian faith, Jesus refused violence, yet taught LOVE and transformation. As Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. preached, "The choice is not between violence or nonviolence, but between nonviolence and nonexistence."
Donald Trump has not only used the military for illegal wars - without Congressional authorization - but is demolishing the institutions and capabilities for success. They are pulling up oceanic sensors. At John F. Kennedy's inauguration, he asked President Eisenhower how he was able to defeat the Germans. The response was "we had better meteorologists." Donald Trump is on track to make the United States of America his SEVENTH bankruptcy.
It is only my opinion, but I think Dwight Eisenhower was the last decent Republican president. He oversaw a rip-roaring economy that built a solid middle class and started the social infrastructure of Interstate highways, vastly increasing Americans' mobility. Race relations were not a high priority during his time in office.
Correction: Brown vs Board of Education, The Montgomery Bus Boycott, and multitudes of civil rights actions took place during Eisenhower's two terms. The 49th and 50th states were also added.

I'm puzzled why his note was dated "July 5" - Any ideas or explanation?
It is only my opinion, but I think Dwight Eisenhower was the last decent Republican president. Race relations were not a high priority during his time in office.
Eisenhower also federalized the Arkansas national guard and sent the 101st Airborne to enforce the integration of Little Rock Central High School.
