Thank you for recognizing the brave Acadians who were thrown out of the paradise they had created in the Maritime provinces of Canada and were victims of attempted genocide. They were dispersed but many went on to survive and thrive in a land that was very different from the area of Canada from which they were violently expelled. They built a rich and vibrant culture in Louisiana. They continue to be a strong and resilient part of the fabric of America.
My family came from Cajun country and I carry the culture mostly with food, having learned from my great grandmother born in 1876.
